P.K.'s motto is "Life is Short. Make it Funny" and her favorite t-shirt reads, accurately, "Feminism Is My Second Favorite F-word." Professionally speaking, Dr. Newby brings together all of her passions—food and health, science and art—in her second company, Food Matters Media. (Her first is a nonprofit theater company currently celebrating its 25th season in Boston, Massachusetts.) She is an author and science communicator and advisor, as well as a recovering academic having served on the faculties at Tufts, Boston University, and Harvard. She is an expert on diet and disease prevention and holds a doctorate of science (ScD) in nutritional epidemiology from Harvard . A science geek, she also earned two master’s degrees from Columbia (MPH & MS) focused on how people make food choices and their impacts on our environment. She possesses deep knowledge and a multidisciplinary lens when it comes to all the food things, bringing evidence and humor to today’s critical food conversations—and fights anti-science in all the ways she can. P.K.'s interest in nutrition stems from a life-long love affair with food, cooking, and gardening, and she dished up plant-based, globally-inspired cuisine rooted n her Healthy Hedonism™ philosophy on ABC's reality series The Taste, hosted by the late Anthony Bourdain, where she was the last woman standing with Nigella Lawson.
