NOURISHING SCIENCE LITERACY &
INSPIRING FOOD ACTIVISM
What We Envision
Our vision is a kinder and more just food system that promotes health, longevity, and sustainability while protecting people and the planet and all its inhabitants, from farm to fork and far beyond.
What We Believe
Our work is steeped in science and rooted in a nutritional ecology paradigm that considers the intersection of health, environment, society and economy when it comes to all the food things—and it directs everything we do.
How We Serve
We believe in harnessing the power of food, science, and technology to create healthier populations through projects that inform and inspire and incite meaningful changes in our world.
On Saturday, March 28, We Rise Again
The social upheaval in the United States caused by the current administration is a result of cruel and misguided policy choices decimating science and public health and threatening individuals, communities, and global peace. Food Matters Media stands on the side of science and sanity and will be rallying with Americans from across that nation for the third No Kings rally. Find an event near you to fight your rights, and for a better world. Together we are stronger.
Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.

Call for Collaborators and Sponsors for a New Docuseries
We live in an increasingly online world with decreasing attention spans, and just-in-time video content and on-demand streaming are major information sources for many. Food Matters Media aims to develop life-changing programming steeped in science and stories to fuel the food revolution, one bite at a time. We are seeking collaborators and sponsors, from production to distribution, to join us in our journey that will delight, entertain, and inform today's eaters. Our goal is to reveal why what we eat matters and inspire viewers to take action in order to create a healthy and sustainable food system for ourselves, our communities, and our planet.
How Can We Change the World, Together?
Meet Founder Dr. P.K. Newby
Scientist. Author. Thought Leader. Visionary.
P.K. Newby, ScD, MPH, MS, is a Harvard- and Columbia-trained food and nutrition guru whose multidisciplinary background creates a richly textured view on why what we eat matters, from farm to fork and far beyond. Dr. Newby is an expert on diet, chronic disease prevention, and sustainability, bringing deep knowledge, dark humor, and sound scientific evidence into today’s critical conversations—and fights misinformation in all the ways she can.
In 2019, Dr. Newby launched her second company, Food Matters Multimedia; her first was an award-winning nonprofit theater company in Boston, Massachusetts. Her mission is to build a kinder and more just food system that promotes health, longevity, and sustainability while protecting people and the planet and all its inhabitants.
Dr. Newby’s passion for nutrition stems from a lifelong love affair with food, from cooking, baking, and gardening to working in the restaurant industry. She was one of the “best undiscovered cooks” on ABC’s The Taste in 2015, where she dished up plant-based, globally inspired cuisine rooted in her Healthy Hedonism philosophy.
Dr. Newby has authored more than 65 peer-reviewed scientific publications as well as multiple books and e-books, including National Geographic’s Superfoods (2015; 2025) and Foods for Health (2014), and the second edition of Food and Nutrition: What Everyone Needs to Know was published in November 2025. She is now a recovering academic, previously serving on the faculties at Tufts, Boston University, and Harvard, where she won multiple research, teaching, and leadership awards—despite the male patriarchy.
