Nutrition Science & Health

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Nutrition is a science.

More specifically, nutrition is a life science rooted in biochemistry primarily focused on understanding how diet and its various (chemical) components impact health and disease.  And there is significant consensus about health, longevity, and sustainability, if you look to science.

Yet there is a considerable amount of misinformation when it comes to diet advice, which is why I started this blog in 2011 and left my full-time academic job to focus on bringing science back to the center of the conversation:  Expertise matters when it comes to diet guidance and your health.

This blog, including its food stories, articles, and many recipes and videos in "Cooking & Eating the P.K. Way" was largely retired during the pandemic (c. 2020). Some of my favorite plant-based and comfort food holiday recipes have been compiled into a set of free e-cookbooks, and you learn about all things food and nutrition from farm to fork and far beyond in my my newest book, Food and Nutrition: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press, 2025).
